Application for Yoga Teacher Training Course

Ethical Guidelines

The thousands of years old Yoga tradition was originally founded on moral values. It seems appropriate that we, as Yoga teachers achieve a life that corresponds to the ethical bases of Yoga, not at last because we carry the responsibility for our students as role models and as persons to whom they relate to.

The first two aspects from the eight-steps path of Patanjali's Yoga Sutras, Yamas and Niyamas, describe the classical ethical guidelines. These principles are to be understood as universal guidelines and not as strict rules.

Ethical Guidelines of the Sampoorna Yoga School:

1. Teach with love, sensitivity and devotion. Always give your best with your full engagement and presence.

2. Treat every student friendly, honestly and respectfully. Everybody deserves the same treatment, no matter which nationality, sex, race or religion they belong to and no matter what their political conviction, sexual orientation, social or cultural background is.

3. Respect your own limits and possibilities. Be authentic and represent yourself according to your education. Only teach what you have practised and what you have studied yourself.

4. Be patient with yourself and your students. Communicate and show that you also are a learner and once a beginner. Realise and teach Yoga as a process, a path.

5. Respect the different Yoga traditions and be aware that your interpretation is not the only one. Be modest and tolerant in your appearance as a Yoga teacher and as the representative of a Yoga school. Avoid any criticism against other schools and teachers.

6. Respect the personality and freedom of your students. Never take any mental, physical, social or material advantage.

7. Before you start any lesson, ask your students about any physical injuries or illnesses, which you should know about.

8. Don't give medical advice. Students who need medical treatment should be advised to see a doctor.

9. Before and after your lessons, be available for your students to ask you questions.

10. Any private information about your students has to be treated strictly confidential.

11. Always make efforts to maintain a high level of professionalism and integrity. Continuously focus on your own further education and practise.
