Living in a fast paced society can sometimes feel like being enveloped in a whirlwind! Your body runs on autopilot, your feet longing to touch the ground, and all of this while your mind tries desperately to keep up with information overload!
If we were to imagine body, mind and soul as being separate parts of the whole, ideally they’d link arms and travel the uneven terrain of life at the same pace in harmony, no matter what may come along the way; strength in unity as they say! Yet all too often the mind is racing way ahead, the body doing its best to keep up, with the soul lagging even further behind just trying to be heard!
I believe that the greatest beauty in life is held within time that passes. Time is beauty because it holds all the stories of our lives that often lead us towards a journey of self- discovery, and for me, like many, that journey is yoga!
Yoga offers so much and we are drawn to this wonderful practice for a multitude of reasons. I recall that my first encounter with yoga in my early twenties was purely physical. I didn’t seem to be able to connect with my mind to encounter those deeper qualities that came later for me in my practice, where I found myself yearning to understand the nature of reality and the untapped potential that resides in us all; and of course ideas surrounding the source from which all this is borne!
On a path that felt so right, I decided to further my adventure by embarking on the 200 hour Teacher Training Course at Sampoorna Yoga. My teacher back home had highly recommended Sampoorna Yoga given my love of Ashtanga and Vinyasa, and the desire to delve deeper from a philosophical perspective.
Sampoorna Yoga was the most amazing mixing pot of inspirational learning from fantastic teachers who’s passion for sharing knowledge was so strongly felt; fabulous fellow students who five minutes after meeting you felt you had known your whole life, and the warmest of welcomes from the karma yogis who couldn’t do enough to help whatever the situation! Couple this with the most beautiful lush setting – the beach, a stone’s throw away where the first thing you hear in the morning and the last thing you hear at night is the soothing energy of the ocean; the most wonderful array of food that makes your taste buds dance and your body feel alive; warm and friendly people everywhere you go, as warm as the stunning Indian sun, and you have the perfect conditions for the ultimate learning experience that changes lives!
On returning home my life has definitely changed! I liken my experience to a fine piece of art or music – you see it, you hear it, you feel it – your senses are immersed in it but its true magic unfolds over time where all you want to do is share it with others! I will be forever grateful for having had this wonderfully transformative experience and to conclude, I feel it apt to draw on part of the learning taken from our Ashtanga classes in understanding the ‘key’ and ‘aim’ of the asanas – similarly in life, if our aim is to understand the full expression of our true selves, then I highly recommend Sampoorna Yoga as being part of the key along this fascinating journey called yoga!
